doctor who

As you can probably tell I have a bit of a soft spot for Ten/Reinette (most likely because it's so doomed and unpopular a 'ship) and I do love my Ten/Donna crack.

A Change is as Good as a Rest
PG | Donna/Rose
Summary: Now she had a half Time Lord - half human lounging on her sofa watching the X-Factor, and the heart of a TARDIS growing in an empty jam jar in her kitchen.
Even if you're like me and not a fan of femslash or Rose this is a must read AU, slightly cracky, post-Journey's End fic in which Donna, rather than Handy, stays in the Pete!Verse. This is the Rose I wanted to see. The evolution of their relationship is fantastic, and the ending is a variation on what I wish had actually happened.

A Plan With One Obvious Flaw
PG | Ten/Donna
Summary: A female Time Lord, the one thing that had been missing from his cunning plan to repopulate Gallifrey.
One thing I love about Ten/Donna is that the pairing tends to produce some of the most fantastically funny (and cracky) stories, and this one is no exception. The author manages to write something that will never happen in canon, but the characters and dialogue are so spot on that I can actually see Tennant and Tate bringing this fic to life as an extremely alternate ending to Journey's End.

A Very Civil Partnership
PG | Ten, The Master, Reinette
Summary: The Doctor does indeed get to settle down with the Master. And it all goes downhill from there.
I'm don't generally read Doctor/Master slash, but I will take a peek at cracky Ten/Simm!Master fics and this fic is a perfect example of why. It's hilarious. The last line is so very Ten: "Surely this was a fantastic plan? What could possibly go wrong?"

Again!
PG | Ten, Rose, Mickey, Reinette
Summary: Not Barcelona this time.
A short and cute GitF-AU in which Reinette makes it on board the TARDIS. Unfortuantely she's not tooling around the universe like expected.

And You've Got Their Shoes
PG | Ten, Donna, Martha
Summary: The Doctor, Donna and the obligatory misadventure with a bodyswap machine.
Like the summary imples, what's sci-fi without a body-swapping story? And a hilarious one that captures the characters perfectly to boot!

April in my Arms
PG-13 | Ten/Donna, Sarah Jane, Martha, Jack
Summary: This could just about be the worst idea the Doctor's ever had. If anyone can fix it, it's Donna.
If this isn't my favorite fix-it for Journey's End, it has to rank in the top 3. It takes elements that I generally don't see working or dislike in fics and somehow makes it work and in such a way as to comply with canon. It's hilarious, heartwarming, heartbreaking and overall fantastic.

Autumn Days That Make You Feel Sad
PG | Donna, Ten, OC Doctor
Summary: Sometimes, you have to sacrifice for the sake of a friend. Donna knows this very well.
I love this look from Donna's POV of her mind-wipe and why she accepts it (even though the Doctor has utterly failed in actually doing it). The ending is very Doctor Who and can slip easily into canon.

Chloe and Stan in the Shadow of the Sphinx
PG | Nine, Donna
Summary: Sometimes, things are right under your nose. Too bad you're not paying attention.
I'm not quite sure when this fic takes place in Donna's timeline (post-Runaway Bride/pre-Partners in Crime or post-Journey's End), but either way this is a lovely fic in which both the Doctor and Donna share a journey without realizing it.

Crisscross Convergence
PG | Donna, Two, Four, Romana, Ten, Martha, Wilf
Summary: The Doctor was fully aware that Donna Noble wasn't a lost cause - she was only a lost cause with the materials he had at his disposal at that moment. What he needed was to be in other moments.
Even if you're not familiar with Classic!Who (like me), this is still a fantastic fix-it fic which takes a different (and very Who-ish) route to restore Donna to who she was.

Don't Throw Your Life Away
G | Ten, Donna
Summary: What if Donna Noble didn't have to leave the Doctor? What sort of life would they have led together?
I love the look at their relationship, the glimpses we get into their possible adventures and how the story comes full circle. The ending, though inevitable, is still heartbreaking all the same.

Five Days The Doctor Never Had And One He Did
PG | Ten, Rose, Reinette, Mickey
Summary: What if Reinette became a companion? How would her interactions with Rose and Mickey shape the TARDIS crew?
I love how the author writes Rose and Reinette's developing relationship. They aren't immediately BFFs, but Rose doesn't go emo and Reinette isn't a conniving bitch. Instead, it's gradual evolution and you can see how and why they begin to get along.

Footsteps in the Sand
PG-13 | Donna, Jack, Martha
Summary: It started at the end, because time had always had a peculiar fondness for the big finish; the twist ending and the dramatic rebirth.
A really fanastic fix it. The part where Donna sees Jack through a Time Lord's eye just breaks my heart. Also, the author isn't kidding about the twist ending. It's not something you would expect, but once it's in your head, it works and it's something you want to see played out on screen.

Fresh From the Word
G | Donna, Ten
Summary: none given
This fix-it fic takes a theory that had been floating around about Donna, gives it a twist and wraps it all in a wonderfully Who-ish wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey story.

Gaining Momentum
G | Donna, Other Canon Characters
Summary: 5 things Donna remembers.
Fantastic little snippets as Donna slowly remembers. While I love it as a whole and thought the ending was just perfect, I have a soft spot for #3 as it takes a part of canon that I generally dislike and makes me actually intrigued (rather than annoyed) by it.

Girl Like You
R | Other!Ten, Donna, Rose
Summary: Life for the Doctor (John, whoever he is) on the alternate plane isn't all he expected (or all the Doctor expected, leaving them behind).
While the thought of Ten (both of 'em)/Rose makes me irrationally angry, this fic gives actual reasons why the two don't work without villifying either of them, and makes the relationship between Handy and Donna a natural evolution. Although, that last line often makes me wonder if the Donna part of the Doctor just fell in love with herself.

Gone for a Cup of Tea (Back in Six Months)
G | Ten, Mickey, Rhys | Crossover with Torchwood
Summary: The highly unlikely but excellent adventures of Ten, Mickey and Rhys.
The summary says it all. You don't have to be familiar with Torchwood to enjoy it, but if you are and you love Rhys as well, all the better!

Hope Deferred
PG | Ten, Donna
Summary: none given
A lot of people cried "mind rape" at the Doctor for taking Donna's memories. I felt like I was the only person who didn't see it that way. Apparently I'm not the only one who didn't think he was violating Donna and this fic is a wonderful look at why the Doctor did what he did and why he didn't recognize the consequences of the metacrisis earlier. And that last line... if I were prone to getting weepy over fic I would totally do so here.

It's Like That (And That's The Way It Is)
PG | Ten, Rose
Summary: "Can you change back?"
A fantastic look at the Doctor and Rose getting reacquainted post-regeneration. If the Doctor and Rose's interacation was like this in season 2, I probably wouldn't hate them as much.

Learning to Dance
PG-13 | Ten/Reinette
Summary: Seduction is an art and Reinette is a master. A slice of time as Reinette teaches the Doctor the minuet.
A rather fantastic piece of UST that leaves you wanting more.

Lessons
G | Ten, Rose, Romana, Reinette
Summary: The Doctor & Rose & Romana & Reinette. In the TARDIS. Adventuring.
All I know about Romana is from Wikipedia, but lack of knowlege doesn't take away from this fic. Like several of the reviewers, I do wish Rose had gotten this experience in some fashion rather than what eventually happened.

Long Way for a Shortcut
G | Other!Ten, Donna
Summary: I'm a human being with the brain of a Time Lord and he's a Time Lord trapped in a human body. Which isn't nearly as kinky as it sounds.
A hilarious cracky, and at one point rather touching, fix-it that I have seen on several rec lists and for good reason. As soon as Handy and Donna had their first conversation I thought to myself "these two need to have their own spinoff!" This fic is the show that I want to watch.

New
G | Ten, Donna
Summary: none given
I think this is part of a RP, but it still works as a standalone fic. It's a fantastic look at how the Pete!Verse versions of the Doctor and Donna aren't quite the Doctor and Donna we (and they) know, but how when they're together, they bring out bits of the familiar in each other.

Over the Rainbow
PG | Ten, Donna, Jack, Mickey, Reinette
Summary: The Doctor's been wandering about the strangest place of all, Oz. A little slice of his time with the mystical Wizard.
It's a fanastic trip which starts off as just an Oz allegory, but turns out to be something else entirely.

Passing the Torch
PG | Donna, Romana, Martha, Jack, The Master, Sarah Jane, the Brigadier
Summary: Just before dying, the Doctor passed on his awesome legacy to Donna Noble.
If only The Stolen Earth had ended like this. It's fantastic and funny.

Pattern Recognition
G | Ten, Donna
Summary: Do not bother a woman holding four knitting needles.
A lovely little interlude in which they're not running for their lives. It's just the Doctor being the Doctor and Donna being Donna.

Permanent Placement
PG | Donna, Ianto | Crossover with Torchwood
Summary: Memory is a very dangerous thing for Donna, and Ianto's called on to step in and help her. On Doctor's orders.
A post-Journey's End fic. I love how Donna and Ianto's friendship evolves, how the resolution isn't quite a fix-it but allows Donna to be brilliant and the rather bittersweet cameo by the Doctor.

Reaction to a Journey's End
G | Everyone from Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane Adventures except Ten and Rose
Summary: Reaction fic to Journey's End.
A lovely fic in which Donna doesn't remember or realize how amazing she is, but everyone else does. Luke's observation of Donna in particular is touching since he doesn't think she's amazing because of what she did as the DoctorDonna, but rather what she does as a regular human being.

The Moment Has Been Prepared For
G | Donna, OC
Summary: A few decades in the future, Donna Noble's granddaughter comes to visit her one last time.
A sort of fix-it that has a lovely nod to Classic Who.

The Short Revolution of Time
PG-13 | Ten/Reinette
Summary: It is the direction and not the magnitude which is to be taken into consideration.
A GitF AU in which he doesn't make it back. Sweet, hopeful and heartbreaking. (And could also slip easily into canon.)

Wanted: Human Woman
PG | Ten
Summary: Post-LotL crackfic as the Doctor sets out to get a companion properly this time.
The title says it all. This author never disappoints with the crack.

What a Gentleman Should Do
G | Doctor (OC), Reinette
Summary: The Doctor, years in the future, tells a past love something she doesn't want to hear.
Among the many things that killed me about GitF was that Reinette never got a goodbye. Here a future doctor (whose characterization I love, there's a bit of Ten in him, but he's not Ten) visits her as she waits.
