torchwood
Oh, Torchwood. No matter how bad I think it gets, or how little I care about particular characters,
something about it keeps on drawing me back in.
A Depressingly Average Morning (for Torchwood)
G | Team
Summary: Slippery-dips, psychic fields, and a Jack-with-a-box: a depressingly average morning for
Torchwood.
The title really says it all. It's a cute slice from an average day at Torchwood in which the
team investigates the rather mundane and Owen is being season 1 Owen.
Dandelions in Your Backyard
PG-13 | Owen, Tosh, Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Martha
Summary: There were many tragedies in Owen Harper's life. The very worst of them was about to find
its way to him.
I have to admit, this fic took two readings to grown on me. The first time I didn't finish it
because I felt Owen was written way out of character, then I came across it again and finished it. I'm
still not sold 100% on Owen's characterization (then again, I'm also still not sold on his transformation
from season 1 to 2 on screen either), but the story itself is fantastic and Owen's interaction with the
other members of Torchwood (especially with Jack towards the end) is spot on.
Dichromatic Picture Show
PG-13 | Tosh, Owen
Summary: Tosh and Owen deal with their lives after death.
Most Tosh/Owen post-Exit Wounds afterlife fics tend to veer towards the sap. This goes in a
completely different direction as Owen grows closer to Tosh while she drifts away. Given Owen's
characterization in season 2 and the Tosh we see in 'Adam', this is a fairly angsty afterlife that I can
see happening.
Forget the Light; The Darkness Will Set You Free
R | Owen
Summary: none given
A bit of time with Owen if he had survived the events of 'Exit Wounds'. The voice is so very Owen
and the last line is just killer.
Gone for a Cup of Tea (Back in Six Months)
G | Rhys, Ten, Mickey | Crossover with Doctor Who
Summary: The highly unlikely but excellent adventures of Ten, Mickey and Rhys.
The summary says it all. It's more Doctor Who-centric, but if you're a fan of Rhys, it's a must
read.
Kill Your Darlings
PG-13 | Tosh, Owen, Other Canon Characters | Crossover with Skins, Pirates of The Caribbean, Harry Potter, Hex
Summary: none given
A pretty epic (in terms of number of fandoms involved) post-Exit Wounds fic. You don't need to be
particularly knowledgable in any of the other fandoms (I'm not familiar with Skins or Hex) to enjoy it. I
love this take on Tosh (and boy, do I wish she had been more like this when she was alive) and the ending
just works in the context of this fic.
Last One Out
R | Owen, Tosh, Jack, OCs
Summary: The years pass with Owen watching.
A fantastic AU in which Owen watches as Torchwood falls apart and rebuilds around him. I loved
following Owen's personal journey to becoming a better person and the ending reminds you (in a good way)
what show Torchwood grew out from.
Mobius Trip
G | Jack, Tosh
Summary: Maybe it hadn't been a good idea to stand in the middle of that circle of creepy statues,
Jack mused
A hilarious visit back to the Doctor Who episode 'Blink'. Because it's Jack, things don't go
as the Angels plan.
Permanent Placement
PG | Ianto, Donna | Crossover with Doctor Who
Summary: Memory is a very dangerous thing for Donna, and Ianto's called on to step in and help her.
On Doctor's orders.
A post-Journey's End (DW) fic. I love how Donna and Ianto's friendship evolves, how the
resolution isn't quite a fix-it but allows Donna to be brilliant and the rather bittersweet cameo by the
Doctor.
Running to Stand Still
PG | Owen/Tosh
Summary: Owen Harper basically turns Sam Tyler.
A really fantastic AU 'Life on Mars'-ish take on 'Exit Wounds'. The narrative style really works
here and I love how even though this fic is Owen/Tosh, it still addresses Katie and her effect on his
life.
Sploded To Bits
PG-13 | Team
Summary: The Torchwood team race against time and other squishy factors.
This fic is like (and features) a particularly gruesome accident. You just can't look away. Ianto
has the best (or so bad it's fantastic) line at the end.
State of Grace
PG | Tosh/Owen, Gwen, Ianto
Summary: Tosh and Owen keep coming close, but somehow never quite make it.
I always felt the Tosh/Owen relationship (and the characters to some extent) had some sort of
split personality because season 1 was completely different from season 2 and there wasn't really any sort
of explanation for it. This fic helps to fill in the blanks and you can see how and why they might've
changed.
Ten Things To Do at Torchwood When You're Dead
PG | Ianto, Tosh, Team
Summary: "Do you ever get the feeling that we're the best two?"
Ianto and Tosh after Owen accidentally "kills" them. I love the interaction between the two and
wish they had more gen/friendship fic like this in the fandom.
The Darkness Between Heartbeats
PG-13 | Jack, Tosh, Owen
Summary: The afterlife can never hold him long.
It's probably not a coincidence that the Tosh/Owen afterlife fics that I like tend to not be of
the "they meet at the pearly gates and live happily ever after" variety (though that's not to say I don't
want them to eventually have that happy ending). This fic offers an interesting twist in that Owen hasn't
made it to the afterlife and it's up to Jack to help him finally cross over. It's a great look into Jack's
mind and where exactly is it that he goes when he dies.
The Last Goodbye
PG-15 | Ianto, Tosh, Owen, Gray
Summary: Ianto isn't alone in his head anymore.
A fantastic and rather dark post-Exit Wounds fic in which Ianto does what Jack can't and won't
do.
Twenty Things To Do in Cardiff When You're Dead
PG-13 | Owen, Team
Summary: How Owen spends his time these days.
A great look at Owen post "Day in the Death". Sad, funny and so very Owen. While Owen/Gwen (and
sometimes Gwen herself) isn't my cup of tea, I really like their little interlude in this fic, it's
exactly how I like their relationship.
