harry potter

A confession: I haven't read the Harry Potter series (other than 'Goblet of Fire' and select parts of 'Deathly Hallows') and don't have a burning desire to do so. Honestly, despite my adoration for them, Cedric/Cho never really registered for me in the movies; I boarded the 'ship purely on the strength of the fics I read (and almost abandoned said ship because of some awful ones).

PG
Lovely angst fic in which Cho grieves for Cedric during OoTP without turning into a wangsty emo girl.

A Handful of Dreams
G
The events of 'Deathly Hallows' affected a lot of people. A look at five lives that won't ever be the same again. Not the usual suspects.

A Million Light Years from Home
PG
Crossover with 'Firefly' which I didn't think could work, but does. I can't say if Sirius is 100% in character, but the Firefly crew is and while I understand why the author chose the ending she did, I found myself wanting the other possible ending (and after you read the fic, you'll know why).

A Thousand Oceans
PG-13
A look into why Cho cries without having her drown in emo angst. The last two lines nicely sums everything up.

And Almost Completely
PG-13
From the summary: "So, once upon a time Cedric Diggory fell in love." It's short, it's sweet and because it's Cedric/Cho, it's utterly heartbreaking at the end.

And This is Goodbye: Perfection
PG-13
A fic in which Cho mourns Cedric but not in the way most authors write her grief process. Rather than just being sad and weepy, she's bitter and angry as well (and not all that weepy).

Ba Humbug
PG-13
From the summary: "Voldemort was getting closer. Physically, figuratively and mentally." It took me a second reading (because I only skimmed it the first time around) to realize just what was happening and I couldn't believe I missed it the first time around.

Beautiful Nightmare
R
Snape/Lily. From the summary: "Snapshots of a different world; one slip of the tongue saved them, whereas another almost destroyed them." I love how it's still not all sunshine and happiness for Snape, but in this world, there's hope for him, not just ghosts.

Coda to an Epilogue: Twenty Years Later, Or The Kids Are All Right
PG
Though I'm not a big HP fan, I do understand why 90% of them wept at the epilogue (thank you Digimon Adventure 02). This fic takes that ending and expands on it. Harry and Draco finally reach an understanding via an adventure to save their children. It's both hilarious and touching.

Diving
PG-13
Cedric and Cho before and after. Doesn't beat you over the head with fluff or angst but somehow mixes the two with such a light touch so that it just sneaks up on you.

End of the Line
PG
Post-DH. The afterlife for those who died. I love how the afterlife differs for each character even though it all takes place in the same location.

Five Things Lily Evans Wanted To Say (But Never Has Because She Was A Sensible Girl)
PG
The title tells you what to expect. An AU world in which Lily hides a secret because she's a sensible girl.

Friendship
PG-13
A different take on Cedric and Cho's relationship. The genre's something that I'm not a fan of, but it works really well here.

Ghost
PG-13
Post-DH fic in which Draco tries to reason with a rather stubborn and bitter Snape.

Harry Potter and the Eagle of Truthiness
PG
Harry Potter crossover (of sorts) with The Colbert Report. Don't think it could work? Somehow, it can, and with hilarious results.

How to Make a Ghost Disappear
PG-13
An AU trip in which Harry tries to put a ghost to rest while on his journey to finally defeat Voldemort.

I Recalled Your Laughter From Long Ago
PG
Little bits of Snape and Lily as their friendship evolves and shatters.

In His Shoes
PG
From the summary: "To Harry Potter, shoes once represented all that was good and wondrous in magic. Not anymore." A great look into Harry's mind during the final events of GoF.

Jesus Goes to Hogwarts
PG-13
Only one (imaginary) word can describe this fic: Crack-tastic! Keep away from any liquids while reading.

Knots
PG
Snape/Lily friendship fic that takes place the summer before their friendship ends. Lovely look at Snape's ambitions and what could've been had he chosen a different path.

Learning Curve
PG
A look into Snape's motivations for antagonizing Harry, written pre-DH and still holds up post-DH.

Love and Other Indoor Sports
PG
Cedric-fic in which he discovers what love is. It builds up to Cho's appearance and it's fantastic journey to take with our favorite Hufflepuff.

Love Potion #9, or Neville Longbottom Strikes Again
PG-13
The title explains it all. A hilarious fic in which Snape plays the reluctant voice of reason while the rest of the school goes mad.

Mayhap
PG-13
A different take on why Cho mourns. Inspired by the comment: "It is always so much better to be in love than in like when someone dies."

Memento
PG
A short fic which serves up little slices of Cedric/Cho throughout 'Goblet of Fire'.

Midwinter Waking
G
Harry/Cho (sadly a pretty unpopular pairing) fic in which the two try to repair their broken relationship via starting a friendship. I think this fic hits on the head why their relationship failed in the first place.

Paved With Good Intentions
G
A look at the Dursleys that doesn't vilify them as evil child abusers; instead you can almost sympathize with them (or at least with Petunia).

Relationship
R
A different Cho (and to a lesser extent, Cedric) and take on their relationship. Although I have trouble picturing movieverse Cho in this fic at times, I can so see Alan Rickman's Snape uttering his one line in this fic and it makes me smile.

Reminiscing
PG
Little bits of Cedric/Cho as Cho remembers. Not really a fan of her stereotypical Chinese parents part, but the memory of Cedric first asking her out more than makes up for it. I love how it goes in a different direction that the typical "Cedric asks a blushing Cho (whose already totally in love with him to begin with) out."

Reprehensible
R
A totally different Cedric Diggory that somehow makes the typical foreshadowy ending all the more tragic.

Such a Good Boy
G
It's Cedric/McGonagall without being creepy. Instead it's rather sweet and totally hilarious.

The Curious Vengeance of Draco Malfoy
PG-13
Draco/Cho, Draco/Harry. I can't say I'm a big fan of either pairing, but it works so well in this fic. Just because Draco hates Harry doesn't mean he loves him and just because Draco likes Cho doesn't mean he suddenly turns into a kind and loving boy.

The Man Who Lived
PG-13
AU in which Snapes survives the events in the Shrieking Shack. I loved taking this journey (so to speak since he doesn't really move too much) with Snape as he faces what's to come and an uncertain future.

The Ms.Scribe Story
PG
This isn't a fic, but rather a Dateline Investigation-style fandomography. I can't remember how I stumbled across this as I'm not in the 'ship factions that are involved nor am I (despite what my fic reading habits suggest) a big HP fan, but I somehow came across this and got sucked the craziness of fans gone insane.

Untitled Drabble
PG
A short and fluffy (but not sappy) Cedric/Cho drabble that doesn't portend anything. It's an isolated moment in time that seems pretty rare with this pairing.

What Comes Is Better Than What Came Before
PG
Cho during the final battle at Hogwarts. Sort of AU-ish given we don't really know Cho's fate.

What You Can
R
Another in the Cedric Diggory as inspired by Robert Pattinson category. I honestly wonder what fics would've been churned out if he were played by someone who doesn't occasionally look like (and I say this with love) he just rolled out of a crack den.

Wouldn't Be the Same
G
A post-DH fic that starts with a bit of the poignancy you would expect from post-DH fics, and then the end hits you with something else. I don't want to risk spoiling it, since it's fantastic.
