harry potter
A confession: I am aware of the book canon, but I haven't read the Harry Potter series (other than
select parts of 'Goblet of Fire' and 'Deathly Hallows') and don't have a burning desire to do so.
Honestly, I'm just in this fandom for the fic.
157
PG | Cedric/Cho, Harry
Summary: none given
Lovely angst fic in which Cho grieves for Cedric during OoTP. The number in the title is
actually significant to the fic, and gives you a nice glimpse of the Ravenclaw that Cho is.
A Handful of Dreams
G | Neville, George, Cho, Other Canon Characters
Summary: Things won't ever be perfect, but they are looking up.
A look at five lives that won't ever be the same again after the events of the last book. I
love how it's not the usual suspects.
A Million Light Years from Home
PG | Sirius, Ensemble (Firefly) | Crossover with Firefly
Summary: "You're a long, long way from home, but you're a good dog."
Crossover with 'Firefly' which I didn't think could work, but does. I can't say if Sirius is 100%
in character, but the Firefly crew is and while I understand why the author chose the ending she did, I
found myself wanting the other possible ending (and after you read the fic, you'll know why).
A Thousand Oceans
PG-13 | Cho
Summary: none given
A great look at Cho and why she can't stop crying over Cedric's death. The last two lines nicely
sums everything up.
And Almost Completely
PG-13 | Cedric/Cho
Summary: So, once upon a time Cedric Diggory fell in love.
It's short, it's sweet (with occasional bits of snark) and because it's Cedric/Cho, it's utterly
heartbreaking at the end.
And This is Goodbye: Perfection
PG-13 | Cho
Summary: How do you let go of someone you never had?
I love how this author gives Cho a different way to mourn Cedric. Rather than just being sad and
weepy, she's bitter and angry as well.
Ba Humbug
PG-13 | Harry, Cedric, Sirius, Voldemort
Summary: Voldemort was getting closer. Physically, figuratively and mentally.
Because I only skimmed it the first time around, it took me a second reading to realize just
what was happening and I couldn't believe I missed it the first time around.
Beautiful Nightmare
R | Snape/Lily
Summary: Snapshots of a different world; one slip of the tongue saved them, whereas another almost
destroyed them.
I love how it's still not all sunshine and happiness for Snape, but in this world, there's hope
for him, not just ghosts.
Diving
PG-13 | Cedric/Cho
Summary: Cho Chang, before and after.
This fic doesn't beat you over the head with fluff or angst, instead it mixes the two with such
a light touch that it just sneaks up on you.
End of the Line
PG-13 | Canon Characters
Summary: Hell was, Snape decided, a crowded railway platform.
Post-DH. Although the fic takes place in the same location with a recurring character that's
hilarious, each chapter is a wonderful standalone that focuses on a different character.
Five Things Lily Evans Wanted To Say (But Never Has Because She Was A Sensible Girl)
PG | Lily
Summary: none given, the title however says it all
A heartbreaking AU. #4 stretches credibility a bit (which even the author acknowledges), but
the end is fantastic.
Friendship
PG-13 | Cho, Cedric
Summary: Cho remembers Cedric.
A different take on Cedric and Cho's relationship. The genre's something that I'm not a fan of,
but it works really well here.
Ghost
PG-13 | Draco, Snape
Summary: They say that death ends all earthly sufferings. What if it offers nothing in return? What
if it was all you had?
Post-DH. A nice glimpse of Draco and Snape after.
Harry Potter and the Eagle of Truthiness
PG | Harry, Ron, Hermione, Other Canon Characters | Crossover with The Colbert Report
Summary: none given
Don't think the crossover could work? It can, and with hilarious results.
How to Make a Ghost Disappear
PG-13 | Harry, Cedric, Other Canon Characters
Summary: It isn't that Harry Potter can't get rid of a certain ghost; it just won't rid itself of
him.
A great AU. I love this Harry, who is on his own and Cedric, who doesn't want to be.
In His Shoes
PG-13 | Harry
Summary: To Harry Potter, shoes once represented all that was good and wondrous in magic. Not
anymore.
A fantastic look into Harry's mind during the final events of GoF.
Jesus Goes to Hogwarts
PG-13 | Jesus, Other Biblical Figures
Summary: none given, though the title says it all
Only one (imaginary) word can describe this fic: Crack-tastic! Keep away from any liquids while
reading.
Knots
PG | Lily, Snape
Summary: A conversation between Severus & Lily the summer before their friendship ends evidences
his inner conflicts and unresolved feelings for the red-haired witch.
This is a lovely look at Snape's ambitions and what could've been had he chosen a different
path told from Lily's POV.
Learning Curve
PG | Snape
Summary: Snape muses.
A fantastic look into Snape's motivations for antagonizing Harry, written pre-DH and still holds
up post-DH.
Love and Other Indoor Sports
PG | Cedric, Cho, OC
Summary: Cedric Diggory is not the jealous type.
Rather than having Cedric fall head over heels in love with Cho at first sight, the story layers
the lessons Cedric learns about love and it all culimates with Cho. It's a fantastic journey to take with
our favorite Hufflepuff.
Love Potion #9, or Neville Longbottom Strikes Again
PG-13 | Snape, Other Canon Characters
Summary: When Neville makes a mistake on one of his potions, only Snape is unaffected by the
results. Can he keep everyone's pants on - literally - until the effects wear off?
This is one of those fics where the title tells you exactly what you're going to get. It's a
hilarious fic in which Snape plays the reluctant voice of reason while the rest of the school goes
mad.
Mayhap
PG-13 | Cho, Cedric
Summary: Some days she would miss him because it felt like she ought to miss him. Some days she
didn't think about him at all, and those were easier... Cho and Cedric, not enough before, too much after.
A different take on why Cho mourns. Cedric/Cho by nature is heartbreaking, but this fic makes
it more so.
Memento
PG | Cedric/Cho
Summary: none given
I love the little glimpses of Cedric and Cho the fic offers. I especially like the little hint
in here that Cedric might look at Harry as serious competition.
Midwinter Waking
G | Harry, Cho
Summary: Sometimes, winter brings change.
I'm sort of suprised how unpopular Harry/Cho are and wish there were more fics like this. This
is a lovely story in which the two try to repair their broken relationship via starting a friendship. I
think the author nails on the head why their relationship failed in the first place.
Paved With Good Intentions
G | Petunia, Vernon
Summary: What do you do when you find a baby with your morning milk?
A great look at the Dursleys that doesn't vilify them as evil child abusers; instead you can
almost sympathize with them (or at least with Petunia).
Relationship
R | Cedric/Cho
Summary: A different perspective on Cedric and Cho. Their relationship - its beginning, ups, downs,
end.
The author gives us a different Cho (and to a lesser extent, Cedric) and even though I have
trouble picturing Movie! or Book!Cho in this fic at times, this could be a side of Cedric we don't get
to see. As a bit of a bonus, I can also hear Alan Rickman's Snape uttering his one line in this fic and
it makes me smile.
Reminiscing
PG | Cedric/Cho
Summary: Cho can't forget.
I'm not a fan of Cho's parents being the sterotypical Chinese parents, but the author's take on
how Cedric first asks her out more than makes up for it. I love how it goes in a different direction that
the typical "Cedric asks out a blushing Cho (who is already totally in love with him to begin with)"
route.
Reprehensible
R | Cedric/Pansy, Cedric/Cho
Summary: Being a Champion is stressful; Cedric just wants a girl who puts out. It's totally that
simple.
A totally different Cedric Diggory that somehow makes the typical foreshadowy ending all the more
tragic.
The Curious Vengeance of Draco Malfoy
PG-13 | Draco/Cho, Harry/Draco
Summary: Sometimes second best is better.
I can't say I'm a big fan of either pairing, but it works so well in this fic. Just because
Draco hates Harry doesn't mean he loves him and just because Draco likes Cho doesn't mean he suddenly
turns into a kind and loving boy.
The Man Who Lived
PG-13 | Snape, Harry, Kingsley
Summary: Severus survives Nagini and then must face the boy he thought he hated, in the aftermath
of the war.
A fantastic AU which could be slotted into canon. I loved taking this journey (so to speak since
he doesn't really move too much) with Snape as he faces what's to come and an uncertain future.
The Ms.Scribe Story
PG | Fandom
Summary: none given
This isn't a fic, but rather a Dateline Investigation-style fandomography (that has the pull of a
E! True Hollywood story trainwreck). I can't remember how I stumbled across this as I'm not in the 'ship
factions that are involved nor am I (despite what my fic reading habits suggest) a big Potter fan, but I
somehow came across this and got sucked into the craziness of fans gone insane.
Untitled Drabble
PG | Cedric/Cho
Summary: After Quidditch practice.
A short and fluffy (but not sappy) drabble that doesn't portend anything. It's an isolated
moment in time that seems pretty rare with this pairing.
What Comes Is Better Than What Came Before
PG | Cho, Cedric
Summary: Something went wrong in the Battle...
A possible fate for Cho during the final battle at Hogwarts. It's short, but packs a nice
punch.
What You Can
R | Cedric/Cho, Other Canon Characters
Summary: none given
Another in the Cedric Diggory as inspired by Robert Pattinson category. I honestly wonder what
fics would've been churned out if he were played by someone who doesn't frequently look like (and I say
this with love) he just rolled out of a crack den.
Wouldn't Be the Same
G | Harry, Ron, Hermione
Summary: The Dark Lord is defeated... but there are still NEWTs to pass.
A fantastic post-DH fic that starts with the bit of the poignancy you would expect from post-DH
fics, and then the end hits you with something else.
